ANNUAL EVENTS

SCHEDULE OF THE NGO’S FOUR ANNUAL EVENTS

1.    The HIV/AIDS colour run Event

The HIV/AIDS colour run is an annual colourful social event targeted to raise awareness among young people in the community about HIV/AIDS testing and prevention.

In addition to entertainment, HIV awareness/prevention information materials are distributed among all participants. This type of event is beneficial in drawing attention to reducing the rate of HIV infections in the communities.

2.    Sports Day Event

This event provides Sinethemba Community Care Center with the opportunity to raise awareness about the HIV inequities faced by the youth and demonstrates innovative ways to share HIV related information and services. Trained soccer coaches, teachers and community leaders use fun, interactive soccer sessions with inbuilt health messaging with their players.

The sports day’s natural convening power creates a platform for the delivery of other health and social services important for HIV prevention, such as voluntary counselling and testing, and treatment and care services for HIV-positive individuals.

This event is particularly held in Summer to raise funds for the NGO’s initiatives. Its conveying power can also be used to draw large crowds in order to deliver HIV prevention messages, to create mobilisation within communities against the disease and against stigma associated with HIV/AIDS.

3.    Put People First Event

This event is about claiming our human right to health. As the Sinethemba Community Care Center NGO, we believe that our communities should be able to get the care we need, when we need it.

This event is celebrated annually in June to honour people who have lived with HIV for a long time and raise awareness of their needs and health issues. Fundraising and spreading awareness of issues affecting people living with HIV are just some of the ways to get involved this Put People First Day.

4.  Arts and Culture (Talent Show) Event

Art and Culture serve as custodians of South Africa’s rich historical legacy. The Arts and Culture (talent show) event is dedicated to transforming young minds and fostering community growth aimed at HIV/AIDS affected families and children. An opportunity to felicitate and encourage the differently abled to be proud in spite of their HIV status.

Our NGO annually organizes a one-day mega celebration to exhibit skills, talents and creativity for the talented who have transformed their lives with the support of Sinethemba Community Care Center. By the community showcasing their talents, it reflects on the strength that comes from unity in diversity. This event is held annually in September.
